DIMAPUR, JULY 5 (MExN): David P. Ward International Co-ordinator Naga Vigil Human Rights Group based at Edinburgh, Scotland has stated that the current round of what he termed as “self congratulatory talks” must be treated with extreme caution by all Nagas. “The only saving grace to emerge from a document leaked by disgruntled elements within the NSCN-IM faction themselves is “The areas occupied by Nagas which are situated in present day Myanmar will not form part of the present negotiations”, Ward stated in a press communiqué.
The Naga Vigil also advised the Nagas of Mon, Tuensang, Longleng, and Kiphire districts to uphold the spirit of the “Saramati Declaration” and choose to be at one with its “eastern brethren”. The fact of the matter is the NSCN-IM is outnumbered by the combined forces of the Shingnya FGN, Khaplang NSCN and the Eastern Naga Republican Army, Ward stated while cautioning that the track record of ‘Partition’ was well known and the subsequent war crimes that were perpetrated in the unbridled bloodletting that was unleashed against the innocent eastern Naga public.
“There are provisions within the present agreement with India such as “The Constitution of NIA (Naga Inhabited Areas) is to effectively marginalize and nullify the armed conflict in the region and to silence other factions” and that is a surefire recipe for a bloodbath in Nagaland the like of which we have never seen before”, Ward stated in his communiqué.
Stating that what the NSCN (IM) was discussing was not much different from the 16-Point Agreement of the NPC, the International Coordinator of the Naga Vigil pointed out that the NSCN-IM have put the cart before the horse and were “looking for economic incentives to feather their own nest”.
“The nominal symbols of sovereignty, such as the national flag or postage stamps is small recompense for the deaths of 150,000 Nagas and does not meet with the approval of the majority of the Naga people east or west”, Ward pointed out while alleging that the NSCN (IM) “had not taken the people with them other than purchasing a few flunkies belonging to NGO’s who do not speak for the people let alone have their mandate”.
Ward also stated that no right thinking people will ever accept the present divide and rule policies being pursued by the Government of India that advocates Nagaland be turned into a veritable “killing field”.
