Limainla Imchen is a 31-year-old Ao Naga woman from Mokokchung, who is presently working as a Lecturer and Research Scholar, Department of Computer Science, Hunan University of Arts and Science (HUAS), China and is the recipient of the Iconic Young Achiever Award 2021 in the field of Computer Science conferred by International Centre for Excellence in Education (INCEED), India on October 10, 2021.

Limainla has Bachelor’s degree in Computer Application from Patkai Christian College and a Master’s degree in Computer Application from Jorhat Engineering College. She worked as an Associate software Engineer for IBM, Bangalore and as a lecturer at Patkai Christian College for two years before she joined the Hunan University of Arts and Science (HUAS), China.

Apart from teaching, Limainla develops software and does web-designing and also teaches free programming to students who cannot afford tuition fees.

“I was nervous and pinched myself and screamed at the top of my lungs when I received the news from INCEED that I have been selected for the Young Achiever Award in the field of Computer science. It was my family’s dream for me to go beyond what we have and today, I feel like I have achieved one milestone,” expressed Limainla on receiving the award.

“When I first chose to study Computer Science, I faced a lot discouragement from my near and dear ones. They told me that there is no scope for people with Computer Science degree in our state,” she told The Morung Express in an exclusive interview.

“Programming was not easy at all with less books and resources, but I never gave up and went on to study and got myself a seat to study Masters in Computer Application at Jorhat Engineering College, Assam. I was among the top 30 selected list from 1000 students and the only Naga girl in the MCA department (Batch 2011-2014),” she further added.

Talking about Naga women taking strides in academics and research, Limainla said that with the advancement of time, women must be given equal opportunities in every field. “I was raised in a family of five siblings where there was no favouritism among our siblings. I believe that women should not stay behind someone’s shadow not being able to express themselves. I encourage all the Naga women who are pursuing academic excellence to work harder and bring laurels to our society,” she said.

“We have a traditional mindset that once you graduate, one needs to appear various competitive exams. Certainly, it depends on one’s capability and interest, but one should not forget the skills and talents we have in ourselves,” she shared.

"I know that our Naga youth are well skilled and well equipped in different areas. So, I would like to encourage our young Naga minds to explore more for their interest and the skills they are good at and not just following what other people do or say,” encouraged Limainla.

Talking about her future plans, Limainla said, “I strongly believe that the future of Computer Science will be promising. I would like to contribute more in the research area in the future and continue to teach and educate young minds who are interested in this field.”

Limainla Imchen very recently developed a Church Management system for a local church in Mokokchung and is working on a web project for a Church based in New Zealand.
