Naga Women’s Union decries ‘inhumane’ attack in Bishnupur district

Imphal, April 9 (MExN): The Naga Women’s Union (NWU) has strongly condemned the killing of an infant and a five-year-old child in a bomb attack at Tronglaobi in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, allegedly carried out by suspected Kuki armed miscreants.

In a statement, the union described the incident, which occurred on April 7, as an “inhumane act” that has shaken the conscience of society, particularly mothers.

It expressed deep concern that the attack took place in close proximity to a CRPF camp, raising serious questions over security.

The NWU said it was deeply saddened by the loss of innocent lives and extended its concern to the children’s mother, who sustained multiple splinter injuries and is undergoing treatment in the ICU.
“As a women’s organisation committed to justice and the protection of life, we firmly denounce this barbaric and unacceptable act,” the statement said.

The union also condemned what it termed as “reckless action” by CRPF personnel, alleging that indiscriminate firing towards civilians left four people dead and more than 10 others injured.

It termed the incident unacceptable and called for accountability of the personnel involved as per the law.

The NWU urged both the state and central governments to treat the matter as a top priority, ensure a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice with stringent punishment.

Expressing solidarity with the bereaved families, the union conveyed its condolences and said it stood with them in their grief.

It also called upon all sections of society to reject violence and work towards ensuring a safe and peaceful future for children, while urging the government to take decisive steps to contain the conflict and ensure the safety and security of citizens.
