Naga youth at 2nd North East Youth festival

Kohima | April 7 : A good number of youth from Nagaland are taking part at the ongoing 2nd North – East Youth Festival at Shillong. Ajay Maken, union minister of state(Independent Charge) for youth affairs & sports declared the festival open this morning amidst a dazzling march past and grand cultural show by the participants from the North Eastern States. The opening ceremony was held in the Jawahar Lal Nehru Sports Complex.
B. M. Lanong, Deputy Chief Minister and many other dignitaries both Centre and state were also present on the occasion. The festival is being celebrated with the theme of “Youth for Change”. The opening ceremony was followed by a beautiful rendering of theme song “Love can change the world” by the youths of Mawlai.
The 2nd North East Youth Festival is being organized by the state government of Meghalaya from April 7 to 9 at Shillong in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Government of India.
About 1100 delegates comprising participants from the north east states, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) and National Service Scheme(NSS), are taking part in the various competitive and non- competitive events during the three day Festival.
The festival is a show case of the rich cultural traditions and colours of North-East. These include folk dances, folk songs, one act play, instrumental guitar and rock band etc. The festival will also feature Food Festival and Yuva Kriti by the Nehru Yuva Kendra participants and Youth Convention by NSS.
The festival will also feature adventure event on April 81 and special ensemble of fashion and rock on the closing day of the festival.  Mentionably, the first North East Youth Festival was held at Kohima.
