Nagaland: 1, 82, 540 students joins Swachhata Pakhwada 2023

Marking the successful completion of Swachhata Pakhwada 2023 activities in Nagaland, the Directorate of School Education and Samagra Shiksha Nagaland today conducted the state level felicitation programme in the presence of School Education & SCERT Advisor Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome.

In Nagaland, 1,82, 540 students from 1,350 (government, private, central schools) joined Swachhata Pakhwada 2023, held from September 1-15.

15 students and 3 schools today received state level award of Swachhata Pakhwada 2023 in the field of painting, model making, slogan, poem, essay and clean and well-maintained schools premises.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Yhome called upon each and every individual to contribute and keep the society healthy and free from dirt.

He said that there about 4 lakh students in Nagaland and on average the school children produces around 8 lakh sweet cover every day.

He expressed happiness that the students are now realizing the importance of cleanliness by putting waste/sweets cover on dustbin.

Stressing on the importance of personal hygiene, Dr. Yhome also stressed on the need to educate the community on cleanliness aspects.

About Swachhata Pakhwada

Kevileno Angami, Commissioner & Secretary for School Education & SCERT said the Ministry of Education, GoI has been observing Swachhata Pakhwada since 2016 in all the schools of the country.

With the exemplary support of the states and union territories, and autonomous organizations of Ministry of Education (MoE), Swachhata Pakhwada has become a successful mass movement with the annual participation of millions of children and other functionaries besides members of the community.

She said that the role of the schools in ushering in a Clean India has been recognized at the top most levels of the government.

The year 2023 is 8 consecutive year of Swachhata Pakhwada implementation, which took place every year from September from 1- 15. This was circulated by cabinet Secretariat and Ministry of Jal Shakti, (Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation), Government of India.

Swachhata Pakhwada focused on cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene drive and other related activities in schools.

This year, it was marked by Swachhata Shapath Day, Swachhata Awareness Days, Community Outreach Day, Green School Drive Day on conservation of water, Swachhata Participation Day by holding competitions on essay, poem, slogan writing, painting, model making on the theme Swachhata and clean and well-maintained premises in schools, Hand wash Days, Personal Hygiene Day, Swachhata School Exhibition Day, Swachhata Action Plan Days and concluded with Prize Distribution Day.

The programme was chaired by Thavaseelan K, Principal Director, School Education while vote of thanks was proposed by Wonthungo Tsopoe, director, School Education, Nagaland.
