An amount of Rs. 11492 lakh has been proposed for construction of 8500 rural houses in Nagaland during 2018-19 under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G).
Against the projected amount of Rs 7388.227 lakh, during the year 2017-18, an amount of Rs 1610.507 lakh has been made available for implementation of PMAY-G programme in Nagaland, which includes Rs 988.38 lakh from the centre and Rs 612.127 lakh as state share.
Out of the total available fund, 4237 houses are to be constructed in the rural areas.
This was stated in the Annual Administrative Report of Rural Development 2017-18 tabled by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on the floor of the House during the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly budget session. PMAY-G is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme aimed at providing housing to the people living in the rural areas. The scheme is funded on the cost-sharing ratio of 90:10 between the Government of India and the state government.
In order to address the gap in the rural housing and in view of the governments’ commitment to provide ‘Housing For All’ by 2022, the scheme of Indira Awaas Yojana has been re-structured into PMAY-G from April 2016.
The objective of the programme aims to provide 'pucca' house with basic amenities to all 'houseless household' and households living in 'kutcha' and dilapidated house by 2022. The immediate objective is to cover 1 crore households living in kutcha house/dilapidated houses in the three years from 2016-17 to 2018-19 and ensure construction of quality houses, using local materials, designs and masons specially trained in quality workmanship.
For houses to become homes, adequate care for adopting a habitat approach through convergence is proposed by providing permanent shelter so that migration to urban areas is expected to be reduced substantially, the report stated.
