Nagaland: 3 municipal bodies re-affirm resolution on ULB

Dimapur, April 11 (MExN): A joint meeting of Dimapur Urban Council Chairman Federation (DUCCF), Association of Kohima Municipal Ward Panchayat (AKMWP) and All Ward Union Mokokchung Town (AWUMT) was held at Hotel Acacia (Banquet Hall) Dimapur on April 11.

According to a copy of the meeting minutes, the house ‘re-affirmed the resolution No. 2 adopted during a joint meeting of three Municipal Council on November 21, 2021 at Kohima namely AKMWP/AWUMT/DUCCF.’ The meeting minutes was appended by DUCCF, Vice President, Lemba Chang; AWUMT, President, Limanungsang; and AKMWP, President Thejao Sekhose and recorder AWUMT General Secretary, Jongpongtemjen.

Earlier, during the November 21, 2021 meeting, the three municipal bodies have adopted two point resolutions; the meeting decided not to accept the November 18, 2021 notification issued by the Government of Nagaland for nomination of ULB advisory council and urged the state government to hold ULB elections at the earliest with due rectification and amendment of the Nagaland Municipal Act 2001, wherever it infringed the Article 371(A) of the Indian Constitution.

Meanwhile, the joint meeting on April 11, 2022 resolved to depute a senior and well experienced lawyer to study Nagaland Municipal Act 2001 on behalf of the three Municipal Councils and to represent the three councils thereof.

The signatories also stated that after thorough deliberation about Nagaland Municipal Act 2001 and various sections of the amendment of the act that infringes the rights of the Nagas, the house resolved the resolution by “raising hands.”
