Shokhuvi, November 8 (MExN): A total of 382 new mahila recruits were attested in the parade ground of the Assam Rifles Centre and School at Shokhuvi, Nagaland on November 8. The occasion was the special attestation parade to mark the completion of 44 weeks of training in battle craft, weapon handling, jungle lane shooting and specialization in counter insurgency operations.
This attestation parade was unique for the fact that it had only mahila recruits and the parade was led by Maj Swati Basedia, a lady officer posted at the ARTC&S, an update from HQ IGAR (N) stated.
The attestation parade was reviewed by Lieutenant General Kaiwalya Trivikram Parnaik, Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Yudh Seva Medal (Retd), Governor of Arunachal Pradesh in the presence of Lieutenant General Pradeep Chandran Nair, Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Yudh Seva Medal, PhD, Director General of Assam Rifles and other senior officers of the Indian Army and the Assam Rifles.
Addressing the recruits, the Reviewing Officer highlighted the rich history of the Assam Rifles as the oldest paramilitary force of the country and its multiple roles. Assam Rifles had inducted riflewomen in all frontline duties since 2015. ‘The brave riflewomen have proved their mettle not only in the North East but also in J&K and in UN Missions. Women contingents of Assam Rifles have also proved their mettle in Republic Day Parades in 2019 and 2023,’ he stated.
Late Captain Kenguruse, Mahavir Chakra, was also remembered on this occasion by the Governor. He called on the recruits to serve the Nation with all sincerity besides asking them to keep pace with technology. He also stated that as mahila soldiers their job was even more challenging than their male counterparts given that besides their job responsibility they would also have to shoulder the responsibility of their families.
The newly passed out riflewomen (mahila soldiers) will now join their respective Units in all frontline duties and continue to serve the country.
After the passing out parade, the Governor also met the overall best Recruit Riflewoman Nonie Chizo, best Recruit in physicals Riflewoman Veplilu Hoshi and Recruit of Changlang District of Arunachal Pradesh Riflewoman Lushangi Yobin.
