The Zunheboto District Cricket Association (ZDCA) is preparing to send 6 girls to Sovima in Dimapur on September 19 for a month-long state level cricket coaching with all necessary arrangements done by the Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA).
The ZDCA which was defunct has recently been revived to provide platform which had been lacking in Zunheboto, according to a ZDCA official.
This is the first time for Zunheboto to be sending female players to represent the district to get proper coaching at state level, the official added.
ZDCA General Secretary Vinoka V Zhimomi shared that initially after reformation, the team struggled without equipment. But with the help of NCA, who sponsored practicing cricket gears and other sports requirements, Zhimomi said that within three months, the ZDCA could prepare a practicing cricket pitch.
The selected girls for the state training are Lydia T Muru (18), Vituna T Yeptho (17), Rosy Y Achumi (21), Kalika K Sumi (20), Toli V Zhimo (19) and Lovikali V Zhimo (22).
President ZDCA Toika K Tissica said that the girls for state level coaching were selected basing on their performance and interests.
He added that Nagas have inborn talent, be it in sports or any other field, but have been failing to properly use it because of the unavailability of platform.
The ZDCA also lauded NCA Vice President Heraito Sukhalu who has been a strong pillar for the newly formed team.
19-year old Toli V Zhimo, who is among the 6 selected girls and a student of Zunheboto Government College, shared that sports has been her passion but she had no opportunity and platform to get proper training for her interest. With the help of the ZDCA, she shared that she will be able to hone her talent, and lauded the Association for its initiatives.
She further added that this initiative can encourage not only sportswomen but also men who are passionate about the sport.
