Nagaland agri dept releases ‘District wise crop calendar’

Kohima, July 27 (MExN): The Department of Agriculture, Nagaland has released the ‘district wise crop calendar’ at the conference hall of Directorate Agriculture, Kohima on July 27. 

The Department of Agriculture in a press release stated that the ‘district wise crop calendar’ was release by the Director of Agriculture, M Ben Yanthan. During the launching programme, Yanthan said that the calendar is to serve as a field guidebook for all the stakeholders and to prepare for any eventualities and calamities including policy formulation. 

“The Department has decided to come out with a district wise crop calendar to provide information and seasonal activities advocated during crop season by farmers in order to enhance production in agriculture. The information consists of both traditional as well as the improved cultivation method in practice along with the promising local crop varieties and High Yielding Varieties (HYV) predominantly in use,” he informed.

Further, Yanthan said that this crop calendar is the first edition and even in future, it will come out with new edition covering all the districts in Nagaland. Yanthan acknowledged the department of IPR for their cooperation in providing information.

The Department of Agriculture also held a coordination meeting with the DAOs and SDAOs on the assessment of crops affected by diseases situation, drought like situation etc.

The programme was chaired by Joint Director, Dr I Amenla and vote of thanks was pronounced by Medovilie Ladu, Dy Director. The crop calendar was distributed to all the districts and subdivision, institute, laboratories and farms.
