Nagaland: Alleged assault of minor by teacher in Chaoha Chingnyu

AASU calls delivery of justice at the earliest

Aboi, February 24 (MExN): The Aboi Area Students' Union (AASU) on February 24 has condemned the alleged sexual assault of a minor by a teacher in Chaoha Chingnyu on February 17 and demanded delivery of justice to the victim at the earliest.

The accused identified as one Om Prakash, hailing from Katihar district of Bihar, is currently serving as a Graduate Teacher at the Government Middle School, Chaoha Chingnyu under Aboi Sub-Divisional Education Office (SDEO).

As per a press release from AASU as well as an earlier statement from the Chaoha Chingnyu Students’ Union (CCSU) and Chaoha Nyupuh Sheko Khong (CNSK),  the 13-year old minor was ‘sexually assaulted’ by the accused when she went to him to seek admission along with a guardian. 

The accused reportedly asked the victim and her guardian come to his house in the evening for Admission of 6th Standard and on the pretext of health issue of a girl allegedly assaulted the minor.  

“The victim then informed about the incident to her mother, following which the mother rushed to Village Guard (VG) for help. Subsequently, an FIR was lodged at Aboi Police Station by the victim’s parents,” stated a joint statement from CCSU and CNSK on February 20.

The details of the incident came to light after an initial enquiry was made by the village students’ union along with Village Guard.

It was further learnt that statements of the victim were recorded at Aboi Police Station as well by Women Police Station, Mon and later before the District Magistrate, Mon and the police is currently investigating the case. 

Meanwhile, expressing shock and sadness over the incident, the AASU stated that accused has “brought a disgraceful to the noble profession of the teaching community and the diluted the professional trust/relationship between the parents and teachers.” 

The accused “also illegally prescribing medicines to the villagers even using some medical tools and hence, misleads the life of innocent students and villagers with his unprofessional moves,” it further alleged. 

Accordingly, the AASU urged the law enforcing agencies to book the culprit with “befitting punishment so that justice is delivered to the victim at the earliest.” 

The Union also asked all the concerned citizens under Aboi jurisdiction to cross check upon any such activities being carried out in any corner and encouraged them to come forward and report the matter to the office or police station.

It also appreciated the CCSU, CNSK and Village Guard (VG), Chaoha for bringing the case in the light and assured that the Union would fight until the end to eradicate such unlawful acts in the society.

Earlier, the CCSU and CNSK had condemned the incident as a “barbaric” act and demanded proper investigation from law enforcing agencies and “book and punish the culprit as per the befitting law.”
