NAGALAND-ASSAM BOUNDARY

It is learnt that another Assam-Nagaland border meeting is going on at Chumukedima from 21st and 22nd June 2013 under the aegis of the mediators appointed by the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India. While the continuing attempt to bridge communication gap between the Government and the people of the States for peace is laudable, it has to be made abundantly clear to all concerned that no attempt should be made to demarcate boundary on the basic of present ground realities, particularly in areas falling under the Tenyimi jurisdiction without associating the Tenyimi people and without taking into account the historical realities of the land ownership. No one can deny that the present Nagaland State came into existence much by the GOI that while creating the State of Nagaland its boundaries should be demarcated on the basic of ground realities obtaining half a century later.

Moreover, it was the GOI, the sole authority to demarcate boundaries of any State who should have taken all steps to fulfill its own obligation at that appropriate time in accordance to its own commitment made to the Naga people at the time of inducing the to join the India Union under various agreements. Therefore, even before these hard facts of historical realities are properly dealt with, it would be totally incorrect to start demarcation based on the present ground realities which were never in existence at the time the State of Nagaland was created.

This is for the information of all the right thinking Nagas to "Hear the call... and rise up in one chores and one united band". Together we stand and divided we fall.
