The Nagaland Legislative Assembly on Friday passed the state budget for 2026-27, authorising an expenditure of over Rs 22,127 crore from the Consolidated Fund of the state.
The budget was approved through The Nagaland Appropriation (No. 4) Bill, 2026, moved by Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio, who also holds the Finance portfolio. It authorises the withdrawal of Rs 22,127.33 crore to meet government expenditure for the financial year ending March 31, 2027.
Of the total outlay, revenue expenditure accounts for the bulk at approximately Rs 17,972.70 crore, while capital expenditure stands at around RS 4,154.63 crore.
Following the concluding remarks made by the Chief Minister on the general discussion on the budget for 2026-27, and introduction, consideration, voting and passing of the various bills, the House passed four appropriation bills. These included Nagaland Appropriation (No.1) Bill, 2026 (Regularization of excess expenditure for the year 2018-2019), The Nagaland Appropriation (No.2) Bill, 2026 (Regularization of excess expenditure for the year 2019-2020), Nagaland Appropriation (No. 3) Bill, 2026 (Supplementary 2025-2026) and The Nagaland Appropriation (No. 4) Bill, 2026 (Budget 2026-2027).
In a statement of objects and reasons the CM said, “The Bill is introduced in pursuance of Article 204 (1) of the Constitution of India, read with Article 205 thereof, to provide for the appropriation out of the Consolidated Fund of the State of Nagaland of all moneys required to meet the expenditure charged on the Consolidated Fund of the State of Nagaland and the grants made by the Legislative Assembly for the expenditure of the Government of Nagaland for the financial year 2026-27.”

NLA Speaker Sharingain Longkumer adjourned the 8th session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly sine die after the completion of all listed business.
The Speaker announced the constitution of various financial and non-financial committees of the Assembly for 2026-27 and panel of chairpersons.
NLA Speaker expressed gratitude to all members for their cooperation and constructive deliberations during the recently-concluded session. He lauded the collective efforts of the House in addressing key issues and contributing to the state's progress. Despite challenges, Longkumer said the session witnessed meaningful discussions and decisions aimed at advancing inclusive and sustainable development in Nagaland.
The Speaker also thanked officers, staff, and various departments for their support. He extended appreciation to the Nagaland Police, security personnel, medical and emergency services, and the media for ensuring the smooth conduct of the session. He also acknowledged the Assembly Secretariat for its efficient management of the House proceedings.
