DIMAPUR, MAY 27 (MExN): Two N NAGA DAO members, the Bethesda Youth Welfare Centre, Dimapur and KRIPA Foundation, Kohima have been given UN recognition. A memento appreciating the two organization on their relentless contribution towards Drug Demand Reduction in Nagaland for over a decade was awarded to them on May 25, at Hotel Sonar Bangla Sheraton, Kolkata by Antonio Maria Costa, the Executive Director of United Nations Office On Drugs and Crime (UNODC) based at Vienna, Austria in the presence of Krishnamurthy Jt. Secretary of MSJE, Government of India, Gary Lewis, the UN Representative of Regional Office for South Asia (ROSA), Ashita Mittal, Dr. Anand Chaudary and Dr. Joyce Angami of UNODC Office, New Delhi.
Maria Antonio Costa who is also the Under Secretary to the United Nations was visiting India for the first time after he became the Head of UNODC about three and half years ago. The Kolkata program was specially convened to interact with the UNODC/MSJE Supported PEERs, the RRTCs, the NGOs functionaries, the Project Directors of SACS and the Anti-Child and Human Trafficking programms in the Eastern and North Eastern States.
The mementos were received on behalf of the Organizations by their respective Directors, W.C. Humtsoe of Bethesda Youth Welfare Centre, Dimapur and Dr. P. Ngully, Director RRTC-NE-II, Kripa Foundation, Kohima.
Meanwhile, in a press communiqué, the fraternity of Network of Nagaland Drugs and AIDS Organisations (N NAGA DAO) has congratulated Bethesda Youth Welfare Centre and the KRIPA Foundation on their hard-earned achievements and wished them good luck that they will continue to be the torch-bearers in the fight against drug abuse and to prevent HIV/AIDS in the state. “This is indeed a proud moment for NGOs working in the field of drug abuse and HIV/AIDS in Nagaland”, stated Ella K, Joint Secretary N NAGA DAO in a statement.
