Nagaland beats Manipur by 147 Runs in Ranji Trophy

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 21 (MExN): Nagaland continued its strong performance in the Ranji Trophy 2024-2025, securing a commanding victory over Manipur by 147 runs. This marks Nagaland’s second consecutive win in the tournament.

The match was highlighted by a century from Nischal Dega, who scored 154 runs off 228 balls, a performance that earned him the Player of the Match award. His brilliant knock, along with a composed 90-run contribution from Hem, helped Nagaland take control of the game, particularly in their second innings.

In the first innings, Nagaland was bowled out for 237 runs in 89.4 overs. Notable contributions came from Sedezhalie Rupreo, who made a patient 57 off 124 balls, and Hokaito Zhimomi, who scored 55 runs from 183 balls. Manipur’s Kabir was the standout bowler, taking three wickets for 56 runs. In the second innings, Nagaland declared at 306 for 5 after 92 overs, with Nischal Dega’s century and Hem’s steady 90 laying a solid foundation. Manipur’s Bishworjit provided some resistance, taking three wickets for 38 runs.

Manipur, in their first innings, struggled to put up a competitive score, being bowled out for 139 in just over 51 overs. Jotin Pheiroijam top-scored for Manipur with 58 runs off 111 balls, but Nagaland’s bowlers, particularly Suchith J with 5 wickets for 52 runs, kept the pressure on. Captain Jonathan Rongsen also chipped in with 3 wickets for 42 runs. In their second innings, Manipur showed more resilience, reaching 257 all out after 92.1 overs. Priyojit K stood out with a hard-fought 89 off 256 balls, but Nagaland’s bowling duo of Rongsen and Suchith once again proved too strong. Rongsen finished with 5 wickets for 81 runs, while Suchith took 3 for 81, ensuring Nagaland’s victory by 147 runs.

Nagaland will now turn their attention to their next fixture, an away game against Goa at the Panjim Gymkhana Ground in Panaji, scheduled for October 26, 2024. The team will be looking to maintain their winning momentum as the Ranji Trophy season continues.
