Nagaland BJP offended by NPF leader’s alleged ‘liar’ remark targeting Modi

Kohima, FEBRUARY 24 (MExN): The Nagaland unit of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) issued a statement responding to an alleged claim against Prime Minister Narendra Modi made by an NPF leader at an election rally. The release from the BJP State Media Cell said that it has taken serious note of a video clip, in which NPF Working President, Huska Yepthomi purportedly called Modi a “liar.”

“At no point of time did the Prime Minister made any utterances that could be misconstrued as lies. It came as a shock as to how a senior NPF leader could come up with such crazy idea as to hurl accusations against the Prime Minister of being a liar,” the release said. Contrary to Yepthomi’s allegation, the release said that Modi, in his address at Heingang (in Imphal East, Manipur) on February 22, only spoke about good governance and development taking place in the country.

It added, “The day dreaming speech made by Huska Yepthomi is very uncalled for; it only goes on to show his declining mental state.”

It further criticized what it termed as the NPF leader propagating “religious fanaticism and extreme hate politics through an election rally for political gains.” According to the state BJP, the Prime Minister visit to the Vatican and meeting the Pope has nothing to do with Yepthomi’s alleged remarks about vandalization of churches or displacement of Christians.

It appealed the people of both Nagaland and Manipur not to be swayed by “depraved mentality” that plays “with faith and religion for political gimmicks.”
