Dimapur, April 27 (MExN): As part of celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, block health mela was organized at UPHC Burma Camp on April 26. Health mela has been an integral part of the Health Department to disseminate information on preventive measures of diseases as well as providing free health care delivery services to the public. It also serves as an important platform to create awareness of various schemes and services provided by the department, stated a press note.

Atokhe, Additional Deputy Commissioner, while speaking on the occasion as guest of honour, stated that the health mela was an ideal opportunity for the public to avail health services at their doorstep. He also appreciated the health department for taking pro-active steps to improve health delivery in the district and also for their efforts especially during the Covid19 pandemic.

Dr I Moatemjen, Chief Medical Officer Dimapur also sensitized the gathering on the various health services and schemes made available in all government health units for the benefit of the public. He also urged the communities of Burma Camp to avail the services at the UPHC. He stated that these days more people suffer from non-communicable diseases such as high BP, diabetes, cancer, etc which are lifestyle diseases and are easily preventable. He urged the public to regularly check their blood pressure and sugar level which is available at the UPHC.

Renchano Odyuo, CDPO also highlighted the various schemes and services under the Social Welfare Department during the programme. Social Welfare Department also setup a stall to disseminate information of these schemes and services for the benefit of the public during the health mela.

The programme was chaired by Dr Chamzai. Medical Officer, UPHC Burma Camp and the welcome address was delivered by Dr Antoly Suu, Dy. CMO. While Merenla said the invocation prayer and I Sungit Longkumer, Chairman UNB-B gave the vote of thanks.

Besides health check-ups, Outreach BIS Drive : issue of Ayushman Health Insurance Card , issue of Digital Health ID, collection of sample test for malaria, TB, and  leprosy,  vaccination, Interpersonal Communication and counseling, blood testing, screening of smokers through Smokelyzer test, etc were also carried out during the Health Mela. Free medicines and nutrition were also distributed.
