Nagaland board exams 2021 result declared

With overall improvement as well as more dominance in the merit list, girls edged past boys in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) Examination 2021 results declared by the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) on July 20.  

Results of the HSLC/HSSLC Examination 2021, held from April 6-29, showed that while overall pass percentage declined marginally from last year, girls’ performance have improved further.  

69.42 pass percentage in HSLC
According to the NBSE, Out of 23,608 candidates, a total of 16,388 cleared the examination with pass percentage of 69.42% in 2021, a marginal fall from 70.03% last year.

The qualified candidates comprised of 8,470 girls and 7,210 boys.

Besides, in Top 20 list, out of 82 candidates, 58 were girls while the rest (12) were boys. This is an improvement over last year where out of 55 candidates in Top 20 list, 16 were boys and the rest i.e. 39 were girls.

Meanwhile, 120 schools secured 100% qualified/pass percentage, out of which 95 were private schools and 25 government schools. Last year, 96 schools achieved the feat. 

The number of candidates securing 80% and above in aggregate was 1,732 out of which 20 candidates were from government schools.

In a marked improvement, schools showing ‘zero/nil result’ also declined from 34 schools to 23 schools this year. All 23 schools having nil result were all government schools.

District-wise, for government schools, Mokokchung topped the table with a pass percentage of 64% followed by Peren and Phek districts at 60% while the newly created Noklak district took the crown for private schools at 95%.

Mokokchung with 91% was second, followed by Phek (88%) among the private schools.  

With just 10% pass percentage, Kiphire district was at the bottom of government school performance table.

HSSLC: Girl power
In the HSSLC results, there was a marginal fall in pass percentage in Arts and Commerce streams, while there was over 10% increase in overall pass percentage in the Science stream. 

As per the data provided by the NBSE, the overall pass percentage for Arts was 69.37% this year, a decrease from 71.87% last year. 

Likewise, the pass percentage in Commerce stream also declined from 75.47% in 2020 to 74.39% in 2021. 

However, in Science stream, the pass percentage increased from 80.99% in 2020 to 91.35%. 

Here again, the girls edged out boys in all three streams. 

In addition, the overall improvement in pass percentage in Science stream this year (from 80.99% in 2020 to 91.35%) is seemed to be propelled by huge improvement in pass percentage among girls. It increased from 90.03 % in 2020 to 95.11 % in 2021 among the females.

However, in terms of toppers, boys edged out girls, with 25 boys against 19 girls in the list.

In 2020, there were 27 girl toppers against 12 boys.   

A total of 5 schools under Arts stream, 7 under Science stream and 3 institutions under Commerce stream secured 100% pass result in the 2021 HSSLC exams.

There are also three toppers from Government Higher Secondary Schools in the merit list of the HSSLC Examination 2021.
