3-way contest in Southern Angami-I; 5-way in  Pungro-Kiphire after final scrutiny 

Dimapur, October 17 (MExN): A total of eight candidates will contest the bye-elections to the two vacant seats in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly scheduled for November 3.

According to updates, all the three candidates to the 14 Southern Angami-I Assembly Constituency have qualified to contest after the scrutiny of nomination was conducted by SDO (C) Jakhama and Returning Officer, Ruopfukuotuo Noudi in his Office chamber on Saturday.

The scrutiny was conducted in presence of General Observer, SK Pradhan, Secretary (Protocol) Home Department, Government of Sikkim and all other party agents. The qualified candidates include Medo Yhokha from NDPP, Kikovi Kirha from NPF and Seyievilie Peter Zashumo as Independent Candidate.

In the 60 Pungro-Kiphire (ST) Assembly Constituency, six candidates have qualified for the bye-election, following scrutiny on Saturday.

The qualified candidates include the INC’s Khaseo Anar, BJP’s Lirimong Sangtam, Independent Candidates S Kiusumew Yimchunger, Lithriyem Dupongle, K Shellumthong Yimchunger and T Yangseo Sangtam. 

However, according to updates from Returning Officer and Kiphire Additional Deputy Commissioner Nyempo Wallim, the Independent Candidate Lithriyem Dupongle has withdrawn his candidature to the bye-election, leaving only five candidates in the fray.

The last date for withdrawal of candidature is October 19.
