Nagaland: Bye-election to 58 Shamator-Chessore on October 30

Kohima, September 28 (MExN): The bye-election to the 58 Shamator-Chessore (ST) Assembly Constituency will be held on October 30, the Election Commission of India announced on Tuesday.

The bye-election is necessitated to fill the casual vacancy created following the demise of former MLA and Advisor to the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), SCERT and Village Guards, Toshi Wungtung on July 1, 2021.

In this regard, the Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer informed that the Gazzette Notification regarding the bye-election would be issued on October 1 and the last date of nominations would be October 8.

The date of scrutiny of nominations is October 11 while last date for withdrawal of candidatures is October 13.

The date of poll is October 30 while the counting will be held on November 2. The election process will be completed on or before November 5, the CEO informed.

“The Model Code of Conduct comes into force with immediate effect in the district of Tuensang and shall be applicable to all candidates, political parties and the State Government. The Model Code of Conduct shall also be applicable to the Union Government,” the CEO stated citing a press note issued by the ECI.
