Nagaland bye-elections: Lirimong Sangtam is BJP's candidate for 60 Pungro-Kiphire AC

Dimapur, October 13 (MExN): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has named Lirimong Sangtam as its candidate for the upcoming bye-election to 60 Pungro-Kiphire Assembly constituency scheduled on November 3. 

Sangtam, an active member of the Party from the constituency, was among 9 candidates cleared by BJP’s Central Election Committee for bye-elections to Legislative Assembly of different states on October 13. 

A press release from BJP national Secretary & Head Quarter Incharge, Arun Singh informed that apart from Nagaland, the Party CEC also cleared names for  6 others in Uttar Pradesh and 2 in Karnataka. 

The bye-election to 60 Pungro-Kiphire AC was necessitated to fill the casual vacancy following the demise of incumbent legislator Late T Torechu of Naga People’s Front on December 16, 2019. 

Another bye-election is scheduled on the same day for the 14 Southern Angami-1 AC, to fill the vacancy left by Late Vikho-o Yhoshü, the former Nagaland Assembly, who passed away on December 30, 2019. He was Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) legislator.

The last date for filing of nominations for the seats is October 16 while the last date for withdrawal is October 19. 

Earlier during the day, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) also announced Khaseo Anar as its candidate for the bye-election to 60 Pungro-Kiphire AC.

The ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and main opposition Naga People's Front are yet to announce their candidates.
