Dimapur, August 3 (MExN): The ‘capital punishment’ order issued by the NSCN-K (Khango) against K Rülho, proprietor of M/S KKB Rülho, continued to draw public outrage on Saturday, with many organisations issuing statements condemning the action.
CNCCI: Condemning the action outrightly, the Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) termed it a smear on the noble political aspirations of the Naga people and defies all logic.
“The Naga National Movement belongs to every Naga. Every Naga is a stakeholder and a contributor in various capacities, and issuing capital punishment due to the inability to pay the monetary demands defies all logic of the Naga National movement and its goal; rather, it is a smear on the noble political aspirations of the Naga people,” it stated.
It further pointed out that the Naga Political Groups (NPGs) need to understand that there are now nearly 20 NPGs fighting for one Naga political cause, with almost all groups imposing demands which are impossible to meet for any business person.
The CNCCI further conveyed its full support to the stand taken by the Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) and directed its confederate, Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), to ensure the business community across Kohima district join the public rally called by the AYO on August 6.
It further appealed to all its confederates (District Chambers of Commerce) to send delegates to attend the rally and express solidarity.
Dimapur CSOs led by NCD: The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD), GB Union (Sadar) Dimapur, Dimapur Naga Students’ Union, and Naga Women Hoho Dimapur have also condemned the action, calling it an evil practice of the past that has no place in a civilised society.
“Such evil practices of money demand with life threat is a bygone culture of barbaric and unenlightened people/society,” the Dimapur-based civil society organisations (CSOs) stated.
The principle of any Naga National group must be a true national movement with political accountability and transparency in the face of the public, not for mongering money and wealth by intimidating someone with a death penalty, they added.
In this connection, the CSOs appealed to the NSCN-K (Khango) to withdraw the life threat order issued against the proprietor of M/S KKB Rülho.
They also reiterated the appeal to all NPGs to heed the NCD’s slogan of “One Government, One Tax" adopted in a Naga public meeting in Dimapur in 2013.
The Dimapur-based CSOs also extended their solidarity to the public rally called by the AYO on August 6, protesting against unabated illegal taxations, harassment, intimidation, and death threats to the common people.
Rengma Hoho: The Rengma Hoho has also expressed deep concern, noting that the action has caused mental tension and alarm not only within Rülho's family but also among the entire Naga community, disrupting the progress and development of the State.
The Naga society, which is yearning for peace, development, and prosperity, strongly condemns such acts of violence, intimidation, and the creation of fear within our community, it stated.
Such action threatens the peace and tranquility among the Nagas and poses a significant risk to the overall well-being of our society, it added.
The Rengma Hoho urged the NSCN-K (Khango) to withdraw the death threat and resolve the tax dispute through peaceful means.
It also appealed to both parties to refrain from any drastic actions and work together towards the development and prosperity of the State. “We stand united against any form of violence and call for the preservation of peace and harmony in our society,” it added.
