Nagaland: Case settled, NCD to install new councilors on August 22

Dimapur, August 19 (MExN): The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has informed that the installation programme of its new councilors will be held on August 22 at 9:00 am in the Council Conference Hall, N L Road in Dimapur.

All the Councilors and the two new members nominated by the respective tribal Hoho/Union, Dimapur along with Tribal Presidents have been requested to attend the programme.

Speaking to The Morung Express, NCD General Secretary Tshapongkyu Sangtam said that the civil lawsuit filed against the NCD office bearers had been settled in the August 13 hearing.

Following the verdict in their favour, the Council has decided to go ahead with the installation of the new councilors, he said.

Earlier, the NCD had been entangled in a controversy where the incumbent NCD team had been accused of extending their tenure without consulting its constituent tribal Hohos.

A civil lawsuit was filed in the court of the Civil Judge Senior, Dimapur Division, by J Walter Longchar and others against T Bangerloba and others of the NCD, alleging that the respondents, which included NCD members who were to demit office by March 2020, had continued to exercise powers of the NCD despite the expiration of their tenure.

In an order dated July 9, the court had restrained former office bearers of the NCD from “selecting/electing/nominating any office bearer till the next returnable date.”

The applicants were also directed to take steps for service of summons within one week, and the date for the next appearance had been set for August 13.

In this regard, the NCD had postponed the installation/ induction ceremony programme of the new Naga Council team scheduled on July 11.
