Dimapur, May 27 (MExN): State Chief Information Commissioner (CIC), I Meyionen Jamir made a courtesy call on YK Sinha, Chief Information Commissioner, Central Information Commission, at the CIC office New Delhi on May 27. During the meeting, they discussed various issues relating to effective implementation of the RTI Act in the state.

According to a report issued by SrPRO New Delhi through the DIPR, the misuse of the Act by the RTI applicants for personal benefits, blackmailing of Government departments, and thereby, disrupting the normal functioning of office and measures to tackle such issues were discussed.

On the other hand, the misuse of the Act by the PIOs and department officials by negotiating with the applicants to avoid parting with information/documents to cover up the misdeeds of the departments was also discussed.

It may be noted that Nagaland is one of the few states where suomoto disclosures by the public authorities are available on their official websites which was appreciated as a good practice. The state is also one of the 9 (nine) states maintaining 100% responsiveness to the RTI applications.

Later in the day, I Meyionen Jamir attended the Board of Governors meeting of the National Federation of Information Commissions in India at CIC Bhavan, New Delhi.
