In seven months, Women Helpline -181 caters to 92 violence related and information seeking calls; with maximum cases of domestic violence and cybercrime
Kohima, November 20 (MExN): In the last one year, the Child Helpline - 1098 has catered to 725 cases, which were mostly run-away, missing and abuse cases. The Women Helpline -181 from April to October 2024 has catered to 92 violence related and information seeking calls. “Of the violence related calls, the maximum cases are that of domestic violence and cybercrime.” This was reported in an update released by the State Hub for Empowerment of Women (SHEW), Nagaland, Kohima on Wednesday.
A training programme for functionaries of the Women and Child Development (WCD) Control Room was organised by Mission Shakti & Mission Vatsalya at the conference room of Mission Shakti on November 20. It may be mentioned that the WCD Control Room comprises the 1098-Child Helpline and the 181-Women Helpline, the release stated.
The Additional Secretary, Social Welfare & Mission Director, Mission Shakti, Bodeno S Colo gave a brief introduction of the two Missions. Martha R Ritse (IAS), Secretary, Social Welfare Department, and Mission Director, Mission Vatsalya delivered the keynote address, where she encouraged the functionaries to make the most out of the training programme and equip themselves for the tasks entrusted to them as call operators of the two help lines.
The Secretary also highlighted on the integration of WCD Control Room with the 112-ERSS (Emergency Response Support System) under the Home Department, and WHL with the One Stop Centres which are in process. She encouraged the team to work together as a team and to ensure that callers are provided the best of services.
The technical session covered topics such as - Psychological Support for Women & Children in Need of Care & Protection; Communication Skills: Telephone Etiquettes; and Legal Provisions for Protection of Women & Children. Resource persons were Dr Zavise Rume, Professor, SCERT, Nagaland; Asangla Sato, Soft Skill Instructor, Multi-Training Centre, Women Resource Development; and Apila Sangtam, Legal Consultant, Department of Social Welfare. The concluding remark was given by Asangla Jamir, Assistant Director, Social Welfare.
