Nagaland CM and others mourn demise of Dr Kevichusa Medikhru

Kohima, May 27 (MExN): The Dr Kevichusa Medikhru, Retired Principal Director, Health & Family Welfare, Department of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland passed away at CIHSR, Dimapur on May 26. 

Nagaland Chief Minister in a press note stated that Dr Kevichusa Medikhru first joined Government service as Assistant Surgeon at Naga Hospital, Kohima in 1986. In addition to various postings in the field and in the Directorates, Dr Kevichusa Medikhru also held many important assignments in mission mode programmes such as State Programme Officer of NHRM, Mission Director, National Health Mission, Nodal Officer of Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme as well as Health Intelligence Bureau. He retired from service recently as Principal Director, Health & Family Welfare Department in April, 2021.

Rio in his condolence said that due to his hard work and effective management of the various programmes in which he was the nodal officer, and also in his capacity as the Principal Director of the Department, the possible outbreak of many dangerous diseases such as SARS, Avian Flu, HINI and COVID-19 were either prevented or controlled effectively.

Rio added that his good works and contributions will continue to inspire many, especially the medical fraternity of Nagaland.

The Department of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland in its condolence message stated that Dr Kevichusa Medikhru was an inspiring, very supportive and a highly motivating Officer. His contributions to the department will always be appreciated.

“I find myself extremely fortunate to have had a chance to know him, to work with him and share beautiful memories with him. The loss will be felt by many. May the memories of his wonderful personality and many contributions to the department & society be celebrated by all,” Dr K Vikato Kinimi, Principal Director, Directorate of Health & Family Welfare stated while conveying condolence on behalf of the Officers and Staffs of the Department.

The Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Speaker, Sharingain Longkumer remembered Dr Kevichusa Medikhru as “a real public servant who earned the love and admiration of the people for his simplicity, straightforwardness and amiable nature. His noble deeds and service to the people shall always be fondly remembered.” “My wife joins me in conveying our sincere condolences to you and your family as we uphold and remember all of you in our prayers for strength and fortitude during this difficult time,” the speaker added. 

NPF Legislature Party Leader & Co-Chairman UDA K Azo Nienu also expressed shock to learn about the demise of Dr Kevichusa Medikhru. He was an able officer and served the department diligently in various capacities in his 35 years of service.  “When I was the medical minister, he had guided me with his wisdom and knowledge about the department. His demise is a personnel loss to me and i will cherish his contributions as a friend and associate,” Azo said.
