Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today assured that the state government will continue to support for promotion of tribal festivals across the state.

Rio said the state government has recognized major tribal festivals for which restricted holidays have been incorporated in the government calendar where every government servant is entitled to avail leave during their respective tribal festivals.

He said that celebration of tribal festivals not only showcase the rich culture and traditional practices  of the Nagas but it bring the  people closer, build better understanding amongst the people and also strengthen the feeling of oneness.

He maintained that celebration of festivals also bring renewal of friendship and assemble better relationship with other communities.

Gracing Angami’s Sekrenyi cum Mini Hornbill festival at Naga Heritage Village at Kisama near Kohima, he stressed on the need to revive and preserve the rich heritage and traditional practices of the Angami Nagas.

He maintained that cultural and traditional practices keep the Naga identity intact.

Touching on people’s much talk on politics, Rio felt that a time has come to give special emphasis on economic and social development aspects.

He sought the cooperation of each and every individual in ensuring real peace prevails in the state for all round development.

Sekrenyi is the premier festival of the Angami Nagas. It is the festival of “Purification and sanctification.”

Angami Public Organization (APO) president Razouvoto Chatsu was optimistic that Sekrenyi will strengthen unity among the Angamis and sanctify everyone, and enable the people to proceed with strength, hope and determination.
