Nagaland College of Music & Fine Arts hosts 1st undergraduate senior recital

The Nagaland College of Music & Fine Arts (NCMFA) on Saturday conducted its first ever undergraduate senior recital programme since its inception in 2016. 

The recitalist was Vilazeü Kengurüsie, a 4th year Bachelor of Music with major in voice and first batch of NCMFA. She performed 10 songs which includes; The Spirit’s Song- Joseph Haydn, Rejoice Oh Daughter of Zion- George Frederic Handel, O Delmio Dolce Ardor- Christoph willibald Gluck, Intorno All ‘Idol Mio- Antonio Cesti, Miirinumi- Anonymous, Love’s Philosophy- Roger Quilter, Think of Me- Andrew Lloyd Webber, Standchen- Franz Schubert, Widmung- Robert Schumann and Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel- Arranged by Mark Hayes.

Hailing from Nerhema village of Kohima district, Vilazeü is one of the most sincere and committed students of NCMFA and “we take pride to declare that she is an excellent music student, said Vesato Theluo, managing director NCMFA.

In the performance, she was accompanied on the piano by pianist and musician Vimezo Iralu, music director of Union Baptist Church Kohima and adjunct faculty of NCMFA (Masters of Church Music in Choral Singing conducting Singapore Bible College.

The collaborating musician for the programme was Hannah Chophi, another 4th year student of NCMFA.

“Our senior students were supposed to do their recital last year but due to the prevailing pandemic our recital and graduation is being delayed,” said Theluo.

Earlier, Ketoulhou Metha, Senior Research Officer (Budget), Finance department, Nagaland was the guest speaker.

Nagas are quite talented in music, yet we need refinement, Metha said.

“We need a formal institution where talent can be refined to higher stage,” he said and congratulated Vesato Theluo for his endeavour and effort to promote music industry through the setting up of NCMFA.

He also called upon the people to trust God so that “God will bless us in the right way.”
