Nagaland commemorates International Day of Older Persons 2019

Dimapur, October 1 (MExN): On the International Day of Older Persons – October 1, various events were organized in the district and sub-division level throughout Nagaland to honour the senior citizens.  
This year, the theme of the UN International Day of Older Persons “The Journey to Age Equality” focuses on pathways of coping with existing and preventing future old age inequality.

 

Zunheboto:  Zunheboto district unit for older people in collaboration with social welfare department and Zunheboto district legal service authority celebrated the International Day of Older People at Town Hall Suruhoto. Advisor for Tourism and art and culture, Khehovi Yepthomi graced the occasion as special guest. Ghokiho Zhimomi Vice President SCFZDU delivered the welcome address and pastor Sumi Baptist Church Zunheboto pronounced the special prayer for older people. Easter H Yepthomi, Retainer lawyer Zunheboto was the resource person. Altogether around 430 older people participated in the event.

 

Mon: Observance of International Day for Older Persons was held at Council Hall, Mon. Deputy Commissioner, Mon, Thavaseelan K, IAS addressed the gathering. District Welfare Officer, Z. Murie delivered the welcome address. Significance of International Day for the Older Persons was shared by Senior Supervisor Phomching, Moba. The programme was organised by the Department of Social Welfare, Mon.

 

Tuensang: The department of Social Welfare and United Tribes of Elderly Leaders Union (UTELU) Tuensang organized a celebration and prayer programme for the senior citizens of Tuensang District on at CKS Hall Tuensang. Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang, Mohammed Ali Shihab shared during the programme. The welcome note was addressed by L. Tinu Sangtam, District Welfare Officer Tuensang while short speech was addressed by N. Khoni, Hd. GB Tuensang HQ. BYE Sangtam Church Tuensang presented a special number. The Department also nominated Ramchi Chang aged 108 and Teshae aged 94 as oldest Man and Woman respectively. 

 

Dimapur: On the occasion in the International Day of Older Persons, the Dimapur District Social Welfare Office organized a function in honour of Older Persons in the district at Jubilee Hall, Ao Baptist Church Diphupar, Dimapur.
DC Dimapur, Kevekha Kevin Zehol graced the programme as special guest. DC also gave away the Senior Citizen Award of Dimapur district to Rev. Dr. Noksangchila and Khevihe Chopi.


Other highlights of the programme included short speeches by awardees, invocation prayer by Pastor ABCD, Lipok Jamir; welcome speech by CDPO Dhansiripar, Kedozokho Peseyie; keynote address by CDPO Medziphema, I. Tsungrosongla Ao and special number by Anganwadi workers & helpers of Diphupar A and Hekugha H. Shikhu and vote of thanks by CDPO Niuland, Akali. 

 

Jalukie: Under the aegis of Social Welfare Department, Peren, International Day of Older Persons was observed at Women Welfare Organization’s Conference Hall, Jalukie Town.


Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jalukie, Dr. Tinujongshi Chang spoke on the theme. District senior most citizens were felicitated, namely, Head GB Jalukie town, Kiasinlak and Heingauchule. Gifts were presented to the senior citizens in recognition of their contributions. The programme was chaired by CDPO Ahthibung, Mangliyangba Lkr, while vote of thanks was proposed by CDPO Jalukie, Namhuheing.

 

Meluri: International day of older person was observed at Meluri village council hall, organised by Meluri Village Women Society. Chairperson, Meluri Village Women Society, Zhitho Poji addressed the gathering. Nyuletho Nyuthe, retired teacher and octogenarian chaired the function where he also said that there are 132 older persons who have crossed 75 years of age including 47 women and 35 men who have crossed 80 years of age in Meluri village. Folk tune by both men and women was presented by the octogenarians. Altogether 87 elderly persons attended the function.
