In a new political development, Nagaland Congress (NC), which was formed by a group of former NPCC members in 2016, has formally merged with National People’s Party (NPP) on Monday.

The NC led by its President, Nillo Rengma and all its rank and file have merged with the NPP.

Addressing media persons at NPP office in Dimapur on Monday, NPP President, Conrad Sangma said that the NC merging with NPP was a “great moment for NPP and it clearly reflects the people’s faith in the party.” He said the main objective of the party was to take up issues relevant to the NE, tribal people and other religious minorities.

He also revealed that the NPP was in talks with the NPF for a pre-poll alliance and added that it would be worked out soon. Former NC President, Nillo said that the party had merged with NPP “in order to strengthen the hands of young and dynamic leadership of Conrad Sangma who is the face of NE.” He expressed the hope that Conrad could lead the NE people and serve the region in various ways.

NPP Nagaland President, Ato Yepthomi said that the merger of NC has strengthened the NPP and was optimistic that the party could put up a good fight during the elections.
