KOHIMA, DECEMBER 2 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) called out the Election Commission of India (ECI) for an alleged double standard. It came in relation to the vote counting for the 43 Tapi Assembly seat scheduled on December, a Sunday. In a statement from its Communications Department, the NPCC said that it had written to the ECI to reschedule the vote counting, “unfortunately with no positive response so far.” Drawing a parallel with Mizoram, it said that counting in the Christian-majority state was originally scheduled for December 3 but later deferred to December 4, Monday. “Now the question is, when both Nagaland and Mizoram are Christian-majority states, what additional criteria was considered by the Election Commission of India to conclude that it was okay to respect the religious sentiments of the people of Mizoram but not so of those of Nagaland,” it posed. It wondered if the ruling government in Nagaland would emulate their counterparts in Mizoram in raising the pressing issues of its constituents.
