The number of COVID-19 related deaths in Nagaland increased to 63 on Wednesday, according to the bulletin issued by the State Department of Health and Family Welfare.

There are 7 other deaths which have been categorised as ‘not COVID related’ and 3 more deaths are under investigation.

With the State’s case count reaching 11,787 on December 16, the death toll accounted for 0.53% of the overall cases.

According to the bulletin, out of the 63 deaths, 43 were from Dimapur while 21 deaths were from Kohima, 2 from Mon and 1 each in Tuensang and Wokha.

Health officials informed The Morung Express that the deaths were ascertained after review by the COVID-19 Death Review Committee. 

The Committee, which was constituted in July 28, comprises of 9 members with subject experts in forensics, pathology, physicians, microbiologist and others. It was set up to review and ascertain the causes and circumstances leading to the death.

Complete case history including presenting complaints with days in hospital and clinical findings is to be included for each death, as per the directive issued by the Principal Director, Health and Family Welfare, Nagaland on August 19.

Meanwhile, 26 new cases were added to the State’s COVID-19 count, taking the tally to 11,787 on Wednesday. The State also reported 23 recoveries after which the recovery count was 10,993.

The number of active cases in the State as on December 16 was 594.

Meanwhile, the State Health and family Welfare Department informed that it would be holding a press conference today, during which briefing on the COVID-19 status and scenario in the State is expected to be shared.

Earlier, on December 13, a Central team visited Kohima to review public health measures and COVID-19 management in Nagaland.
