The Nagaland senior cricket team which won a historic victory against Chandigarh at the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy on October 14.
DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 14 (MExN): Nagaland defeated Chandigarh by 1 wicket in the ongoing Men's Senior Vijay Hazare Trophy on October 14.
This is the first time a new North East BCCI state has defeated a team from outside the North East zone.
Nagaland won the toss and elected to field first. Chandigarh put up a total of 220 runs before being bowled out in 49.4 overs. AK Kaushik with 55 runs and Bipul Sharma with 49 runs were the top scorers for Chandigarh.
For Nagaland, Tahmeed and Imliwati were the highest wicket takers with 3 wickets each.
Nagaland managed to secure the target scoring 222 runs in 48.4 overs, with Aosashi scoring 76 runs and SS Mundhe with 45 runs as the highest scorers.
Shreshth Nirmohi with 5 wickets was Chandigarh’s highest wicket taker.
The Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA) has meanwhile congratulated the team on this historic win over Chandigarh.
Nagaland U-19s win against Manipur
Meanwhile, the Nagaland Under-19s team also won against Manipur in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy.
Electing to bat first, Nagaland scored 142 runs before being bowled out in 41 overs. Vendash (53 runs), Shamphri (16 runs) and Nchumbemo (14 runs) were the state’s highest scorers.
For Manipur, Bidash and Sadananda were the highest wicket takers with 4 wickets each.
The Nagaland bowlers were exceptional in the second innings managing to restrict the Manipur team for just 27 runs, bowling them out in 12.3 overs
Ram Jangir was Nagaland’s highest wicket taker with 6 wickets, followed by Odilemba with 3 wickets.
