The Round 4 Plate match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2020-21 was played between Nagaland and Manipur at VB Nest Cricket Academy, Chennai on February 27.

Nagaland was sent in to bat as Manipur won the toss and elected to field. However, the Nagaland team failed to make a mark initially and instead lost consecutive wickets.

Opener Hokaito Zhimomi went off for a duck as Manipur skipper Rex Singh took the first wicket in the third over. The wickets kept going down and Manipur continued to dominate at the VB Nest Ground on Saturday.

Significant contributions from Hem Bahadur Chetri (82), SS Mundhe (52), and Jonathan Rongsen (46) among others ensured a score of 257/9 for Nagaland at the end of the allotted 50 overs.

While Manipur bowlers put up an impressive performance, the team was unable to maintain the same momentum with the bat.

Stuart Binny once more came to Nagaland’s rescue with a 3 wicket haul, while SS Mundhe, Imliwati Lemtur, Khrievitso Kense, Hokaito Zhimomi and Jonathan Rongsen took one each.

At the end of their innings, Manipur had been restricted to 240/9 and Nagaland won by 17 runs.

With Saturday’s win, Nagaland shares the fourth spot with Meghalaya with 12 points each in the Plate Group table.
Nagaland will play their last match against Arunachal on March 1 at 9:00 am.
