Nagaland: Demand grows to restore Old Pension Scheme

Kohima, April 28 (MExN): National Movement for Old Pension Scheme (NMOPS) President and in-charge Northeast Chapter, Manjeet Singh Patel while saying that the New Pension Scheme (NPS) has failed in providing old age social security to the government employees, has demanded restoring the Old Pension Scheme throughout the country.

He said that more than 30,000 employees under NPS in Nagaland are contributing 10% of their salaries every month, however, in the website of National Security Deposit Limited (NSDL) Central Record Keeping Agency (CRA) which manages all the data, shows entry of only Rs 1200 crore while the actual amount should be approximate Rs 5000 crore.

Questioning as to where more than Rs 3000 crore has gone, Patel during a press conference in Kohima on April 27 remarked that NPS is a scam as the total corpus is being invested in share market which benefit the corporate sectors.

Urging Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to look into the matter, he cautioned that if the state government fails to protect them, the employees will take out a big protest in the state.

Confederation of All Nagaland State Services Employees’ Association (CANSSEA) President, Dr Ilang said that CANNSEA have joined hands with Nagaland chapter of NPS employees to roll back to the old pension system as it guarantees pension for government servants after retirement.

He said the Association on April 15 learned that only 32,111 employees have been generated with the Permanent Retirement Account Number (PRAN) card out of which Rs 1308 crore have been uploaded in the portal.

He also informed that Nagaland will be joining the national movement ‘March to Parliament’ in September demanding rolling back NPF to OPS.
