Nagaland: Digital age demands smarter students

AWO and ASU honour HSLC & HSSLC Exam 2025 toppers

The Principal of Modern College, Piphema Dr Vitsou Yano, has expressed the need for students to become smarter and efficient by learning through understanding keeping in mind the age of digital and Artificial Intelligence we are living in. She was speaking at a felicitation programme organised by Angami Women Organization (AWO) and Angami Students’ Union (ASU) for HSLC & HSSLC Exam 2025 toppers from Angami Naga community in Kohima on May 2. 

To the young students, which the speaker referred to them as flag bearers, she reminded them to uphold their cultural identity, traditions, and local language- Tenyidie as a foundation of growth.

Dr Yano said the society has bigger expectation for toppers and encouraged them to become contributors in the society. She advised students to communicate openly with their families and encouraged parents to support their children’s aspirations while maintaining healthy dialogue.  

The speaker also emphasized the need for skill-based education in today’s world and highlighted the importance of setting clear goals and pursuing one’s own dreams rather than those of parents. Dr. Yano highlighted the significance of fostering a growth mindset—staying positive, overcoming fears, and learning from mistakes.

AWO President Neithono R Sothu encouraged students to lead life with good morals which parents especially mothers have for their children. She asked them to remain grounded, work harder for future success, and stay mindful of their parents’ sacrifices. 
Sothu also advised them to avoid negative influences, choose friends wisely, and always rely on faith and prayer.

Delivering greetings, ASU President Khriesamhalie David Mere congratulated the toppers for their achievement and motivated them to pursue various fields. 

During the prorgamme, Vikhono Senotsu who secured top 1 in HSSLC (Arts stream) from Government Higher Secondary School, Jotsoma spoke on behalf of the toppers. Vikopeno Meyase, presented special songs and by Pastor Mhalevilie Yongo of Victory Church of All Nation pronounced invocation. The programme was chaired by AWO Secretary, Atono Kense.
