Pest attacks/infestation and diseases were reported to be the main cause of damage to the horticultural crops being grown by farmers in Nagaland.

This was stated in the 1st Report on Nagaland Disaster Statistics 2023 brought out by the Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Nagaland.

Quoting the Department of Horticulture, during 2019-20, an area of 1200 acres were affected by pest infestation and diseases in Nagaland.

The following year, 2020-21, brought a slight respite with only 598 acres of land affected.

However, in 2021-22, 950 acres of farming land were affected.

Dimapur district consistently reported the highest level of damage during all three time periods.

The crops severely impacted encompassed a diverse range, including pineapple, banana, dragon fruit, lemon, king chili, turmeric, ginger, large cardamom, and an array of valuable vegetables.
