DIMAPUR, JULY 1 (MExN): In a significant achievement for Nagaland, two athletes from the state — Kitenlo K. Thono of Tseminyu district and Hinokali of Zunheboto district — have been selected to represent India at the 9th Asian Pencak Silat Championship 2025, scheduled to be held in Ha Tinh Province, Vietnam, from July 23 to 31.
This marks the first time athletes from Nagaland will represent the country in Pencak Silat at the continental level. Both have been undergoing intensive training at the Faith in Action Martial Arts Academy in preparation for the prestigious event.
The championship is hosted by the Vietnam Pencak Silat Federation under the aegis of the Asian Pencak Silat Federation and the International Pencak Silat Federation.
Kitenlo and Hinokali earned their spots on the national team after winning gold medals in the Tanding (match) category during the 13th Senior National Pencak Silat Championship, held from April 9 to 12, 2025, at KD Babu Stadium in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
Both athletes are trained under the Nagaland Pencak Silat Association and have a history of strong performances at national and regional levels.
Kitenlo K. Thono hails from Ehunnu Village, Tseminyu District and has a total haul of 9 Gold, 2 Silver, and 1 Bronze. Notable wins include gold medals at the 37th National Games (2023, Goa), All India University Games (2024), and multiple North East Championships.
Hinokali hails from Izheto Village, VK Town, Zunheboto District with a total of 14 Gold, 6 Silver, and 6 Bronze under her belt.
Her achievements include medals from the Khelo India Women’s League, ASMITA Pencak Silat Leagues, and National Games.
The Nagaland Pencak Silat Association, led by President Khevishe Sema, extended its congratulations and best wishes to the athletes, commending their hard work and consistent performance.
