
Kohima, February 16 (MExN): The Election Commission of India (ECI), in the exercise of relevant sections under the Representation of the People Act 1951, has banned the publicising and publication of exit poll in print or electronic media or dissemination in any other manner for the ensuing general elections in Nagaland.
The prohibition on exit poll will be in effect from 7AM of February 16 to 7PM on February 27, stated a notification issued by the ECI.
‘It is the period during which conducting and publishing or publicising exit poll by means of print or electronic media or dissemination in any manner of any exit poll in connection with the aforesaid general election... shall be prohibited,’ it stated.
It further clarified that under relevant section of the Act, displaying any election matter including results of any opinion poll or any other poll survey, in any electronic media, would be would prohibited during the period of 48 hours ending with the hours fixed for the conclusion of the poll in connection with aforesaid elections, it added.
The order is applicable to general elections to Legislative Assemblies of Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura and bye elections in some other states.
