Nagaland Engineers converge for annual general conference

Additional chief secretary & finance commissioner Temjen Toy today urged upon the Confederation of Nagaland State Engineering Service Association (FONSESA) to set its priorities right and contribute towards the development of the state.  

Addressing the annual general conference of FONSESA here, he said that it is the bounden duty of FONSESA to ensure that as members and as officers in various departments they have to contribute towards the society and the state.  

He also urged upon the engineers to be doer and do what they are suppose to do as well as monitoring and supervising. He challenged them to be proud engineers in search of excellence through their professionalism. The Additional Chief Secretary also asked them to strive together, adding that each obstacle and each frustrating incidents that encountered be taken as challenge in order to achieve even more.  

Accountability of engineers is critical

Er. Khupi Natso, Engineer-In-Chief, NPWD said the role of engineers and technocrats in nation building has been recognized time and again in the country by one and all, adding that the level of responsibility and accountability of the engineers is very high and critical to the development of the state.  

“Policy making for any developmental programmes without technical back up is never a success. A correct policy, planning and designing are paramount important for smooth and successful implementation of the programmes,” he said.  

Need to have paradigm shift

Er. Natso stated that engineers should have a rightful place close to the policy makers for formulating perspective plan and speedy implementation of the developmental woks. “If we are to survive as professional, as a cream of the society, there is a need to have paradigm shift of our way of approach to our works and duties,” he said. He also stressed on the need to go for massive capacity building so as to face any type of challenges, more importantly in dealing with national flagship programmes and international funding programmes.  

Bounden duty to facilitate growth

FONSESA, president Er R. Temsutemjen Aier said engineers serving in various technical department of the state play a very important role in the development aspects of many key factors- roads and transportation, power, public health, mining etc. “As professionals, it is our bounden duty to facilitate growth in various fields- education, industries economy etc,” he said.  

Stating that the expectations from the government of the day and from the people are tremendous, he said it is our bounden duty to fulfill all these expectations. “All this can be achieved only if we dedicated ourselves and devote our time and energy with a full measure of devotion and determination,” he said and asked the fellow engineers to serve with sincerity, honesty and dedication.  

‘Excellence through professionalism’

Referring to FONSESA motto “Excellence through professionalism,” Er Aier challenged the members to strive to achieve excellence in their respective fields through a collective approach of professionalism. “In spite of financial difficulties being faced by the state, Nagaland state government has being kind enough to announce implementation of the Revision of Pay effective from June 1, 2017. We are grateful to the state government for the kind gesture,” he said and challenged all fellow engineers to work harder than before and be worthy employees befitting of the pay granted by the government.  

“Let us walk the extra mile and do something good for our people,” Er. Aier said. Also stating that the demand for skilled manpower has increased tremendously, he said “We need to keep pace with the change of time. There is an urgent need to upgrade our skills and knowledge to keep abreast of the times so that we are not left behind in our respective fields.”  

Earlier, the function was chaired by FONSESA vice president Er. Shikato Sema while vote of thanks was proposed by FONSESA joint secretary Er. Wapangnaro Imchen.
