Dimapur, March 7 (MExN): Seized liquor and drugs worth Rs 2.30 crore were destroyed under Section 73 of the NLTP Act 1989/NDPS Act 1985 at the Excise Directorate Complex, Dimapur by the duly constituted Liquor/Drugs Destruction Boards on March 7.

The destroyed items were seizures made by the three enforcement wings based in Dimapur namely District Excise, Mobile Squad and Narcotic Cell during the period from December 2022 to February 2023, a press release from the excise office informed. 

The destroyed liquor/drugs consisted of IMFL-58,647 assorted bottles; Beer-22143 assorted bottles/cans; Wine/Vodka/Breezer-1447 assorted bottles; Codeine based cough syrup-459 bottles (AFD Cough brand)
During the stated period, an amount of Rs 6 lakhs was deposited as revenue realized from case compounding, it added.

In the destruction program, the Commissioner of Excise, H Atokhe Aye (NCS) commended the Excise Enforcement personnel for the huge seizures made during the last few months, especially during the holiday season and the State General Assembly Election 2023, “who with limited manpower and in difficult conditions perform their duties diligently.” He also encouraged them to continue to work sincerely.
