Terogvunyu village gate inaugurated

Nagaland’s Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Village Guards Minister, CL John inaugurated Terogvunyu village gate under Tseminyu district on June 7. The construction of this village gate, is funded under Entry Point Activity by Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP), assisted by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister thanked JICA for their entry into Nagaland for the developmental projects. He called upon the villagers to cooperate and work together with JICA and the implementing agency (forest department) to gain maximum benefit from this NFMP. Further, the Minister urged upon the villagers to exercise positive attitude for all round development.
Mentionably, NFMP (an externally aided project), aim to improve forest ecosystem and support income generation by rehabilitation of jhum area and provision of livelihood support, thereby contributing to sustainable forest and environmental conservation and livelihood improvement in the targeted villages in Nagaland.
The project has three commonest- forestry interventions and biodiversity conservation, livelihood improvement and community development and institutional strengthening.
185 villages ask to prepare for mid-term review
Also speaking on the occasion, Temjenyabang, IFS, CCF, Project Director (A,F&P), NFMP said that Terogvunyu is one of the 185 villages across Nagaland, selected for NFMP for a period of 10 years.
He lauded the efforts of the village community, particularly the Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC) for the various works being carried out under NFMP.
He described 185 villages as “very special” in term of natural resources management sector in this externally aided project in Nagaland. The performance score card of those 185 villages would determine the future prospect of the externally aided project in the state, he said. In this, he stressed on the need to work wholeheartedly for success of the NFMP.
Further, he called upon all 185 villages to prepare for mid-term review, as this year (2023), has entered into middle part of the project.
Earlier, Sokenye Tep, member, JFMC Terogvunyu briefed the purpose for construction of the village gate. The programme was chaired by Yhuntilo Kent, RFO cum FMU Head, Tseminyu Range while welcome address was delivered by Terogvunyu village council chairman Daniel Tep. Vote of thanks was proposed by GB Sunyii Semp. Zuthunglo Patton, IFS, Conservator of Forests (STC), Nagaland, Rajkumar M, IFS, DFO & DMU Head Kohima, Dr. Sevono Seletsu, ACF & ADMU Head and other dignitaries also present at the programme.
