Nagaland Fire & Emergency Services Act in offing

The department of Nagaland Fire & Emergency Services is pursuing for introduction of Fire & Emergency Services Act in Nagaland under the guidance of Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA).

This was stated by Neilasa Sopfü, Inspector General of Fire & Emergency Services, Nagaland during the inauguration of the new directorate building of the department here today.

Sopfii expressed optimistic that such Act would be materialized this year.

Apart from fire fighting, he said that the department is focusing on fire preventive measures as well as preventive measure is rather the best to fight any disaster.

When this Act come into force, all the buildings which are above 15 metres will have to have fire safety measures for fire prevention, he said.

Recently, the state government has notified all the government departments to install fire safety measures and according the department of fire & emergency services became the first department to install fire protection and alarm system in the new Directorate building.

By the end of June to July, the department will be undertaking fire safety inspection on every government building, follow by churches, different institutions and other buildings which are above 15 metres, Sopfii said.
