Farmers urged to take up Agro-farming

Mokokchung, July 14 (DIPR): Mokokchung District, PMKSY (IWMP) Batch II culmination programme organized by Department of Land Resources, Mokokchung was held on July 14 at multi Sports complex, Mokokchung.  

Y. Kikheto Sema, IAS, Secretary, Department of Land Resources (DoLR) speaking on the occasion as the chief guest maintain that, the successful culmination of the programme was the outcome of combined effort from the department and the farmers. To build a strong rural economy and to uplift the living condition of the community, farmers should change their old mindset and take up Agro-farming which has better economical returns he added. He also said that, the department is trying to link up with the Rubber board and Coffee board of India in order to set up a stronger marketing avenue. He also stressed on the need to learn, apply and teach the knowledge they acquired from the departmental field workers.  

Guest of honour, Sushil Kumar Patel, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung, in his address said self sufficiency can be achieved through proper planning and application of modern farming. Mentioning that water is the most important natural resources he said conservation of water sources should be of top priority. Hoto Yeptho, Director, Department of Land Resources Nagaland in his short speech said the department is initiating capacity building through various programmes to assist the farmers.

Earlier, the chief guest handed over the water shed Development fund to the beneficiaries while Dr. Sashiyangba Kichu District Project Officer, LRD Mokokchung presented an overall review of the PMKSY (IWMP) activities. The chief guest and officials also inspected the exhibition put up by the Department.  

Wokha dist yield Rs 15 cr out of rubber plantation

The Department of Land Resources, Wokha held its culmination programme for Batch II of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojna (PMKSY) on July 13 which was attended by a host of departmental officers, farmers and village leaders under Wokha district.  

Speaking at the programme, Secretary, Land Resources Department (LRD), Y. Kikheto Sema IAS informed that Nagaland was the first State in the country to hold the culmination programme of Batch II PMKSY and lauded the departmental officers and Watershed Development Team Members for the success of the programme.  

He informed that the central government had appreciated the Department for the success of the programme and encouraged the departmental staff and beneficiaries alike to continue working sincerely.  

Recalling his visit to some of the rubber growing villages under Wokha district on Wednesday, Kikheto expressed happiness to learn that most of the wayward youth indulging in drug abuse had given up their habits and were getting involved in rubber plantation.  

He informed that Wokha district was yielding Rs 15 crores now out of rubber plantation being assisted by the LRD and that the amount could go up to Rs 176 crores if the current standing rubber trees were being harvested in the future.  

Stating that the Department had taught the people about similar farming activities, Kikheto appealed the beneficiaries to pass on the knowledge to others and help one another in uplifting each other’s economy.  

Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, Wezope Kenye also spoke about his earlier association with the LRD and described it as one of the most efficient departments.  

Director, LRD, Hoto Yeptho said that former officers and employees of the Department had given all out efforts towards the success of the programme and appealed the beneficiaries to remember them.  

Later, Kikheto handed over a seed money cheque to 24 beneficiary villages under Wokha district.
