Nagaland to frame own land resources laws

Dimapur, May 26 (MExN):  Nagaland state will have the power to frame its own laws regarding ownership and transfer of such Land and Resources under Article 371 (A), a copy explaining the decision of the Nagaland state decision stated today.  The Cabinet met on May 26, deliberated on the subject of Ownership of Natural Oil and Gas Resources amongst other issues, and took a decision, a note from the Press Secretary to Chief Minister Abu Metha said.
The Cabinet explained the decision in one length –  “The Cabinet took note of the reply given by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Government of India, to the Lok Sabha unstarred Question No. 2423, asked by Dr. Mahesh Joshi whereby, the Government of India has accepted the stand of the state government and that of the state assembly, which was enumerated in a resolution of the State Assembly dated 27th July, 2010 that the term ‘land and its resources’ as INSERT IGNOREed in Article 371 (A) of the Constitution relating to Nagaland, would include mineral oil and gas resources, and therefore, the State of Nagaland would have the power to frame its own laws regarding ownership and transfer of such Land and Resources under Article 371 (A).”
“The Cabinet also decided that this reply of the Government of India should be formerly endorsed to Geology and Mining Department and the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Land and its Resources for necessary follow-up action accordingly.”
