Dimapur | July 21

Fuels prices across Nagaland remained unchanged for fourth consecutive day on July 21 with the Oil marketing companies (OMCs) pausing the revision for longest period in weeks.

Accordingly, petrol and diesel were retailing at the same rates as in July 17, when it was last revised.

The retail price of a litre of petrol ranged from at Rs 103.48 in Tuensang to Rs 100.36 in Dimapur on Saturday.

The cost of diesel were Rs 94.76 and Rs 91.99 a litre respectively in Tuensang and Dimapur on July 17, as per the database maintained by The Morung Express based on the official IndianOil One app.

Fuel prices in Nagaland are highest in Tuensang and lowest in Dimapur.

Petrol prices breached the Rs 100-a-litre mark across Nagaland on July 15, with Dimapur joining other districts in reaching the threshold. Tuensang and Kiphire were first to crossed the threshold on June 26.

With a pause for four consecutive days, petrol prices have been hiked nine times, while remaining stable for 12 times till July 21.

Diesel prices, however, have been 5 times, while remaining unchanged for 15 times and decreasing once.

Fuel prices differ from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes such as value-added tax (VAT) and freight charges. 01\4Cs revise fuel prices daily benchmarking retail fuel prices and dollar exchange rate.

According to IANS news agency, consumer's bearing the brunt of rising fuel prices for more than a couple of months may expect some relief over the next few days as OMCs “have begun evaluating the fall in global oil prices and its resultant impact on fuel prices in the country.”

The benchmark Brent crude that had risen to $77 a barrel late last month has shed more than 10 per cent in the last fortnight to reach a level of $68.85 a barrel now. If the price line remains below $70 a barrel for a few more days, petrol and diesel prices could see a cut in the coming days, it reported on Wednesday.
