Nagaland: Fuel prices unchanged for 5th day as global oil prices dip

Morung Express News
Dimapur | July 22

Fuels prices across Nagaland remained unchanged for fifth consecutive day on July 22 with the public sector  oil marketing companies (OMCs) pausing the revision for longest period in weeks.

Accordingly, petrol and diesel were retailing at the same rates as in July 17, when the prices were last revised.

The retail price of a litre of petrol in the State ranged from at Rs 103.48 in Tuensang to Rs 100.36 in Dimapur on Saturday.

The cost of diesel were Rs 94.76 and Rs 91.99 a litre respectively in Tuensang and Dimapur on July 17, as per the database maintained by The Morung Express based on the official IndianOil One app.

Fuel prices in Nagaland are highest in Tuensang and lowest in Dimapur.

Petrol prices breached the Rs 100-a-litre mark across Nagaland on July 15, with Dimapur joining other districts in reaching the threshold. Tuensang and Kiphire were first to crossed the threshold on June 26.

With a pause for five consecutive days, petrol prices have been hiked nine times, while remaining stable for 13 times till July 22.

Diesel prices, however, have been revised upward 5 times, while remaining unchanged for 16 times and decreasing once.

Fuel prices differ from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes such as value-added tax (VAT) and freight charges. OMCs revise fuel prices daily benchmarking retail fuel prices and dollar exchange rate.

According to IANS news agency, one of the main reasons for pause in fuel price rise is an over 10 per cent fall seen in global oil prices with benchmark crude sliding to $69 a barrel from a high of over $77 barrel just a couple of weeks back.

With OPEC reaching an agreement to raise crude production, oil prices are expected to remain soft. This could make way for fuel prices in India to actually fall after a long interval, it reported on Thursday.
