
DIMAPUR, JANUARY 9 (MExN): The Department of Economics and Statistics, Nagaland, has announced the formation of the State Level Coordination Committee (SLCC) and District Level Coordination Committee (DLCC) to oversee the implementation of the 8th Economic Census in the state. This initiative is in compliance with a directive from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), communicated via a letter dated November 19, 2024.
The SLCC is chaired by the Chief Secretary of Nagaland and comprises senior officials from various state departments, including the Principal Secretary and Development Commissioner, Commissioners and Secretaries of Industries and Commerce, Rural Development, Information Technology and Communication, Labour and Employment, and the Secretary of Economics and Statistics. Other members include the Labour Commissioner, Directors of multiple state departments, and the Director of the National Statistical Office (FOD), Regional Office, Kohima. The Director of Economics and Statistics serves as the Member Secretary of the SLCC.
The SLCC has been tasked with monitoring the preparedness and progress of the Economic Census at the state level. Its responsibilities include resolving administrative and technical challenges, ensuring adequate deployment of enumerators and supervisors, reviewing fieldwork progress on a monthly basis, and validating data against existing databases such as the State Business Register. The committee is also expected to prepare reports on data accuracy, based on supervision conducted by state and NSSO officials.
At the district level, the DLCC will be chaired by the Deputy Commissioner of each district. Members include the District Planning Officer, General Manager of the District Industries Centre, District Information and Public Relations Officer, District Informatics Officer, and District Economics and Statistics Officer, who will also serve as the convenor.
The DLCC's role is to monitor and address administrative issues related to the Economic Census at the district level. It will provide regular feedback to the SLCC to ensure effective execution of responsibilities. The committee is also tasked with sensitizing local authorities, including law enforcement and Panchayat or ward-level government functionaries, to facilitate the smooth conduct of the census.
Additionally, the DLCC will assist in providing administrative unit maps of wards and villages to aid fieldwork operations.
This coordinated effort at both state and district levels aims to ensure comprehensive and accurate data collection for the 8th Economic Census, contributing to informed decision-making and planning for economic development in Nagaland.
