Giving a push towards providing better medical services to patients in Nagaland, Capsule Endoscopy, the first of its kind in the North East region and touted to be the 26th in the whole of India, was formally launched for use here today. The service was launched by Health & Family Welfare Minister Dr TM Lotha.
Capsule Endoscopy is one of the latest technologies in scientific medical science and is meant for diagnostic purposes. Capsule Endoscopy assists in treating patients with gastrointestinal disorders of the small intestine such as Crohn’s disease, celiac disease, gastro-intestinal bleeding, inflammatory bowel disease, small bowel tumors and NSAID-related injuries.
Launching this facility here at the Naga Hospital, Minister for Health & Family Welfare Dr. TM Lotha expressed hope that facility of Capsule Endoscopy would provide quality medical services to the people of Nagaland and at the same time that it would go a long way in the history of the state's medical department.
Informing that many new developmental initiatives have taken place and brought far-reaching changes in the medical department, the Health Minister reiterated his hopes that the arrival of the new facility would immensely benefit patients of the state.
Pleased with the arrival of Capsule Endoscopy - one of the most modern facilities in medical science, Director of Medical Services Dr. Sashimeren Aier said “This is a good beginning and our health-care facility will improve.”
Also, while lamenting that health-care facility is not up to the mark in the state of Nagaland in terms of manpower, inadequate infrastructures and poor hospitals building, the Director stressed on the need to render a greater and better efort and provide whatever facility is available, to the people.
Earlier, the launching ceremony was chaired by Dr. L Angami, Director, Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima. Imkonglemba, Secretary Health & Family Welfare also spoke on the occasion. A first-hand introduction of the Capsule Endoscopy was delivered by Ramu from Vishal Surgical Equipment Co. Pvt. Ltd.
Following the function, a CME session on Gastroenterology and Capsule Endoscopy was held. It is learnt that the Vishal Surgical Equipment Co. Pvt. Ltd has provided 10 capsules to the state free of cost.
