Nagaland gets major SGSY funds

DIMAPUR, MAY 22 (MExN): Grants-in-aid amounting to Rs.57.49 crore has been released by the Ministry of Rural Development to 5 DRDAs of Nagaland towards part payment of first instalment of Central share of funds under the ‘Swarnjayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana’ (SGSY) during the year 2007-08 as per.

As per a PIB press note Dimapur will get Rs 84.55 lakhs with an amount of Rs 14.09 lakhs already released as first installment. Kohima will get Rs 64.96 lakhs with amount of Rs10.83 lakhs already released. Tuensang will get Rs 71.20 lakhs with first installment of Rs 11.87 lakhs released. Zunheboto will get Rs 85.90 lakhs with Rs 14.32 released while Kiphire has been allotted Rs 38.28 out of which Rs 6.38 lakhs has been released. An amount of Rs.11.04 lakh has also been released to the Kohima DRDA of Nagaland towards restoration of cut on account of late submission of Central share of funds under the scheme during the year 2006-07.

The amount should be utilized on the programme as per approved guidelines of SGSY. The funding pattern will be 75:25 by the Centre and the State. The State Government should release its share within one month of the date of release of the Central assistance. Under SGSY, assistance is given to the poor family living below the poverty line for taking up self-employment. It actively promotes group approach by organising the rural poor into Self-Help Groups.
